The first important step in academic life

The National Diploma “Brevet” is the first major exam in the students’ academic journey. It marks the end of middle school and certifies the knowledge and skills acquired by students at the end of 9th grade.

Our school follows the French National Education curriculum and prepares students for the Brevet under the same conditions as in France. We are proud to support our middle school students through this experience. At EFIP, we assist each student in preparing for the Brevet through:

  • Teaching that aligns with the French curriculum.
  • Regular practice for written and oral exams.
  • Personalized support and adapted educational assistance.

Our students take the Brevet at the Lycée Français Anna de Noailles in Sofia (Bulgaria).

Organization of the Exams

Since the June 2025 reform, the National Diploma “Brevet” is organized as follows:

  • Continuous assessment: grades obtained during the year (40% of the final grade).
  • Final exams: written tests in French, mathematics, history-geography, moral and civic education, as well as an oral exam (60% of the final grade).
  • Oral exam: an oral presentation based on a project or experience carried out during the year.

Final Exams (June 2026)

The written exams cover:

  • French, coefficient 2 (3 hours): based on a literary text excerpt and possibly an image, assessing language skills (grammar including rewriting, vocabulary, etc.) and comprehension and interpretation skills + dictation + essay writing.
  • Mathematics, coefficient 2 (2 hours): exercises, some including tables or diagrams, with one exercise on algorithms.
  • History and Geography, coefficient 1.5 and Moral and Civic Education, coefficient 0.5 (2 hours): analysis and understanding of documents + use of historical and geographical landmarks + application of moral and civic education skills.
  • Science, coefficient 2 (1 hour, 2 out of 3 disciplines): physics-chemistry, life and earth sciences, technology.

Each final exam is graded out of 20. The exam scores contribute to an average out of 20 which counts for 60% of the final result.

Oral exam

The oral exam focuses on a project conducted in art history or within the framework of Interdisciplinary Practical Teaching or one of the educational pathways. It mainly evaluates the quality of oral expression and is scored out of 20.

The oral exam can take place in two formats:

  • An individual interview lasting 15 minutes (5 minutes presentation and 10 minutes discussion).

A group interview lasting 25 minutes (10 minutes presentation and 15 minutes discussion)..

A student passes when the final average score is equal to or greater than 10 out of 20.

Based on the total points obtained, students may receive honors:

  • “Assez bien” (Honors) if the average is at least 12 out of 20.
  • “Bien” (Good) if the average is at least 14 out of 20.
  • “Très bien” (Very Good) if the average is at least 16 out of 20.
  • “Très bien avec les félicitations du jury” (Very Good with Jury Congratulations) if the average is at least 18 out of 20.
