Welcome to Grade 1 !

At the École Française Internationale de Pristina (EFIP), Grade 1 marks a key stage in children’s schooling: it is the year when they fully enter into foundational learning, while continuing to benefit from a safe and caring environment.

Each day begins with routines that help pupils find their bearings in time and build confidence: roll call, date, weather, presentation of the day’s schedule, and oral exchanges. These moments foster concentration, oral expression, and group life.

Grade 1 is the key year for learning to read and write. Pupils gradually discover sounds and letters, read syllables, words and sentences, learn cursive handwriting, and produce their first written sentences. In mathematics, they develop their skills through counting, problem solving, and the use of concrete materials.

Pupils use several notebooks, in particular the daily notebook, which brings together everyday activities and allows families to follow their child’s progress and value their work.

Learning is enriched through artistic and sports activities, as well as collaborative projects, in order to support the intellectual, social, and emotional development of each pupil.

At EFIP, allophone pupils, for whom French is not their native language, receive tailored support to encourage a gradual immersion in the French language. Every year, we are impressed by how quickly the children make progress in French!

Students with special needs benefit from differentiated teaching, individualized support, and regular communication with their families. At EFIP, each child is encouraged to progress at their own pace and to thrive fully.
